Mel Whitehouse, Program Manager
Hard to believe we are halfway through another HOPES summer! So far we have taken field trips to the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Field Museum with a few other trips to the Art Institute coming up before the summer is done!
I would like to give a HUGE shout out to our Americorps team and our Site Coordinators this summer, many of whom are putting in more hours than ever and helping us to provide services at 9 locations to run 13 programs with limited staff. With all of this effort, dedication and energy it has been so rewarding to spend time at our programs, talking to our shelter partners and getting to know this summer’s kids and parents. Just in the last week or two we’ve played music, melted s’mores (in a “solar oven”), designed boats, catapults, written stories, learned magic tricks and there’s still half a summer to go!
LL will be continuing with their summer of STEAM programming with some fun sessions about the connections between math and music and K-5 will continue with our balance of Art, STEM and literacy including our upcoming annual end of summer tradition of making ice cream at program!
