About the POsition

The Site Coordinator position is a unique opportunity for anyone with experience in education, social work or community development looking to build their skill set. The Site Coordinator will serve as a liaison between Chicago HOPES for Kids and the shelter site, and is responsible for creating an environment where volunteers and students can connect and grow. Site Coordinators are expected to be on-site during each program session, Monday-Thursday. This is a part-time position; programs take place in the late afternoons or early evenings which requires a time commitment of 10-12 hours per week for 12 weeks. Site Coordinators are also required to attend a one week training before the program begins, as well as bi-monthly staff meetings (Friday mornings) at our West Loop office. It is possible to extend the commitment to future programs sessions, if interested.

Stipend: $15/Hour


  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in education, social work, or related field preferred, or equivalent life or work experience

  • Prior experience working closely with elementary school-aged children (Kindergarten to 5th Grade)

  • Prior experience with children who have experienced trauma and/or homelessness preferred

  • Prior experience coordinating programming for children preferred

  • Bilingual is a plus

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate after-school programming for K-5 students at a designated shelter site

  • Manage volunteers, promote and support positive behavior norms, collaborate with program partners and implement program curriculum for the purpose of a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all participants

  • Maintain communication between Chicago HOPES for Kids and shelter staff,
    volunteers, parents and other stakeholders

  • Maintain manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of documenting activities, student progress, subject area assessments, volunteer and student attendance

  • Distribute registration forms, surveys, assessments, and information, as
    directed by the Program Manager

  • Attend and participate in program meetings and workshops

  • Other duties related to program operations (eg distributing donations, organizing site library, conducting inventory)
