Dear Friends of Chicago HOPES for Kids,

Welcome to fall! HOPES programming has started and we have had a wonderful time with our students in our After-School program. The students are busy with Mad Science; Harmony, Hope and Healing; Code Play Learn; and After-School Matters at our various shelter sites. They are also working on art projects that will be featured at our Children’s Art Show at the Literacenter – for the children and their families, on Friday, November 16th.

HOPES has been busy adding AmeriCorps State members to our staff. The AmeriCorps members are providing support to our After-School programs where we are in need of volunteers. They recently attended the National Service Opening Day in Springfield where they met with the more than 1,000 AmeriCorps members who are serving in Illinois. Our AmeriCorps members are able to volunteer at our shelters 4 afternoons a week. This adds consistency that is extremely helpful to our students as they work to adjust to shelter life.

There are many upcoming projects for HOPES staff and volunteers. We have been hosting Family Game Nights on Saturdays or Sundays at four of our shelters: Cornerstone, Primo Englewood, SRHAC, and our new shelter program, Primo Western. The Game Nights continue each month with our shelter families as we seek to become part of their shelter communities. If you would like to volunteer to participate in any of our Family Game Nights, please contact Amelia Murphy, HOPES Volunteer Manager at Amelia@chicagohopesforkids.org.

Additionally, I want to thank all of our volunteers. We appreciate each and every one of you as you donate your time and talents to the children and staff in our shelter programs. Each of you helps improve our HOPES programs and the services we provide for our children and families.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
