Meet our Social Work Interns!
Chicago HOPES for Kids is happy to announce that Aileen Apuli and Carma Steele will be joining our team for the next 9 months as Social Work Interns! In the past, social work interns have supported HOPES in the development of our Parent Program and a Girls Group for young girls in grades 6th through 8th grade. We are very grateful for their committed time and efforts in bettering the lives of the parents and youth we serve.
Aileen Apuli is an MSW student at the Jane Addams School of Social Work at UIC with a concentration in children and families. For the last 5 years she has worked for Head Start’s child development programs in Chicago. Aileen has a strong interest in working with families because she believes parents greatly impact a child’s well-being. She hopes to bring eagerness and encouragement to empower parents of their rights and the resources available to them. In addition, she looks forward to working with the children on their social emotional needs to build healthy relationships with others.
Carma Steele is also an MSW student at the Jane Addams School of Social Work at UIC with a concentration in mental health. She recently began her internship with HOPES this Fall and is really eager to begin working with students and their families to encourage literacy. Carma is most interested in learning skills in how to be a great advocate for students and is looking forward to a wonderful school year with the program.
