Executive Director Report

Rita Kahn: Interim Executive Director and Development Manager

Summer is made for fun in Chicago, and we have plans underway to make our HOPES Summer Enrichment program a fun-filled experience for the children and families we serve - incorporating art, music, field trips, social emotional learning and of course lots of great books!

I am excited to welcome two new AmeriCorps members to the HOPES team for the summer, Amber Shields and Emily Saliterman.  Amber recently graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Emily has been a Teach for America corps member for the past two years serving as a 2nd grade classroom teacher in Gary, Indiana.  We look forward to the positive impact that their experience and enthusiasm will bring to our students this summer.

On May 4th we held our largest family event ever in collaboration with the Lincoln Park Zoo.  Over 200 individuals attended HOPES at the Zoo - an evening of exotic animals, superheroes, train and carousel rides, and a musical parade that I can only describe as magical. We cannot thank our friends at Lincoln Park Zoo and the event grantor enough for this memorable experience.

More good news, our HOPES Associate Board held their most successful fundraising event ever, SoHOPES Happy Hour at Soho House, on April 26th.  We are so proud of this amazing team of dedicated individuals and congratulate them on this sold out (and super fun) happy hour event!

If you have not already, please buy your tickets to the 2nd Annual Seeds of HOPE Gala on June 21st!  The event will include a delicious dinner, full bar, live music and an exciting auction. This is our largest fundraiser event of the year sponsored by our Board of Directors.  Please come out and spend time with the HOPES network of supporters committed to ending homelessness and providing educational support and encouragement to children experiencing homelessness in our city.    To purchase tickets, click here.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Chicago HOPES for Kids and your dedication to helping children experiencing homelessness reach their full potential.

Best,

Rita Kahn
