Executive Director Report

Dear Friends of Chicago HOPES for Kids,

A new semester has started in earnest at Chicago HOPES for Kids. We want to welcome two new members to our HOPES team:  Erica Walker, our Program Manager and Andree DeLeon, our Bookkeeper. We are excited to have them working with us to manage and improve our organization.

Additionally, our shelter programs are expanding to include new shelter sites and enrichment partners. This semester we would like to welcome Primo-Homan Center in North Lawndale, Apna Ghar in Uptown, and Su Casa and You Can Make It Shelters in Back of the Yards to our ongoing sites. We want to extend a warm welcome to them and the children and families we are working with there.

Our program is also expanding to include new enrichment partners. We are working to place at least two enrichment partners with each shelter program. Code Create is a new enrichment partner at our Cornerstone and Primo-Homan Center sites. Harmony, Hope & Healing is at the Su Casa/You Can Make It and Primo Center sites. In addition our Literacy Mentor program is partnering with Ignition Community Glass, the Poetry Foundation, Qyjon Clark, and Math Circles. Of course, we don’t want to forget our ongoing enrichment partners – Code Play Learn at SRHAC and Mad Science, our longest enrichment partner, that provides fun science experiments at all of our shelter programs. We are fortunate to have a wealth of talent to make learning fun for the children at each of our shelters.

As spring approaches we are looking forward to field trips with our students and families to the Garfield Park Conservatory and to the Chicago Children’s Museum.  We are also working to spread awareness of the effects of homelessness on the children and families we serve. We are looking forward to having each of you work with us to undo the traumatic effect that homelessness causes in the lives of our children and families. We want to thank all of our supporters for their efforts on behalf of our children.

Finally: Save the Date for HOPES’ first ever Gala at the Garfield Park Conservatory on June 22nd.
