Executive Director Report

Rita Kahn: Interim Executive Director and Development Manager

Letter from Executive Director,

Enrollment in our summer enrichment program is underway and we are excited to welcome students back for the summer.   Our program team has lots of exciting learning opportunities in store for the children. For students who are below grade level in reading, our summer program will provide the books, enrichment activities and one-on-one reading support with volunteers to improve their reading abilities and raise their confidence when they return to school in the Fall. We are so appreciative of our many volunteers who are dedicating their time  and talents to children experiencing homelessness this summer.

We are pleased to welcome two additional AmeriCorps members who will be providing direct service at our shelters.  Ryan Silins joins us from North Park University where he is studying Philosophy. He developed a passion for helping children and ending homelessness through his volunteerism at Friday Night Street Ministry and working at a summer camp in Lake Geneva, WI.  He is excited to be serving at Cornerstone Community Outreach this summer. Michael Butler recently moved to Chicago from Lansing, Michigan where he participated in youth coaching programs on healthy eating. Michael will be serving at our Primo Sangamon shelter this summer and also helping with outreach in the Englewood neighborhood which is also his home.

The Second Annual Seeds of HOPE Gala is this Friday, June 21st at Garfield Park Conservatory.  We are almost sold out, so buy your tickets today! I hope to see many of you at this wonderful event hosted by our Executive Board of Directors.

Best,

Rita Kahn
