It has been quite a month of activity! The month of May included the final week of programming, during which one of our sites, Cornerstone, enjoyed a series of three consecutive visits from our partners at S & P Global. For our end-of-semester meeting we thanked Americorps members and site coordinators with a celebratory lunch at WJ Noodles in the West Loop, and said goodbye to four of our site coordinators, expressing our gratitude for everyone’s dedication and service to the program. Since then we have brought on four new site coordinators: Eliza Stein, Eric Walker, Claire Cappaert and Latoya Jones.
May also involved several program improvement projects intended to strengthen and hone the curriculum, provide coordinators with additional resources, and include trauma-informed practices into our program strategy. Some curriculum initiatives include physical activity programming, social-emotional learning curriculum, organized and standardized activity banks for literacy and math, and revised curriculum for summer.
In May we also finalized enrichment partnerships; for summer session we will be having Mad Science, Code Play Learn, and Poetry Foundation returning, and will be establishing new partnerships with Free Lunch Academy, MODOS Dance Theater, and Classroom Inc., among others, for a more well-rounded enrichment roster. We are also happy to report that we will be returning to the Ridgeland Transitional Shelter with our summer program.
It’s looking to be a really great summer! Thank you for your continued support of the program; we could not do it without you.
