Executive Director Report
Summer is almost here and we are excited that HOPES is planning our largest summer program ever – a 6 week session at 7 shelter sites, serving 8 shelters. We will be serving shelters in Uptown (2); Austin, North Lawndale, Englewood, Back of the Yards (2), and South Shore. We are happy to welcome Ridgeland Transitional Shelter back to HOPES programming after its having been on hiatus for the spring term.
Summer program training has begun for Site Coordinators and AmeriCorps members. We are welcoming 4 new Site Coordinators and 4 new AmeriCorps members to our HOPES team. Our special thanks to Kristina Peterson, from Roosevelt University, who conducted Trauma Training for our Site Coordinators and AmeriCorps members and who also shared information on working with children who have experienced trauma with our volunteers.
As always, we could use your help this summer as a volunteer with HOPES and to recruit your friends and family to volunteer at one of our shelters. Please go to our website, www.chicagohopesforkids.org to sign up for volunteer training or to learn more about volunteering this summer with HOPES. I hope that you will be able to give 2 hours, once a week to help our children continue to be successful in school.
Finally, all HOPES Board members and staff are gearing up for our First Annual Seeds of HOPE Gala that will be held at the Garfield Park Conservatory on Friday, June 22nd, from 6 pm – 10 pm. There will be delicious food, wonderful music and fantastic items for our Silent Auction. I hope that you will all be able to come and support our children and our program!
Many thanks for your support,
