Executive Director Report

Rita Kahn: Interim Executive Director and Development Manager

Letter from Executive Director:

The 2nd Annual Seeds of HOPE Gala held on June 21st was a great success! Thank you to everyone who supported the event – by attending, volunteering, donating time and treasure – it all came together as a very special evening for the HOPES community.  The event included dinner, dancing, a live and silent auction and full access to the beautiful gardens of the Garfield Park Conservatory. One of the goals of the Gala was to raise funds to support WiFi access in the shelters and purchase educational technology to better support the specific learning needs and challenges of our students.  I am happy to report that we reached our goal and raised over $15,000 to support this effort. This fall, we will be providing hotspots to all our shelters without WiFi and investing in I-Pads and Educational Apps to benefit our students. We look forward to measuring the impact with our students.

On July 11, we hosted a Bookshelf Build at the LiteraCenter with a volunteer group from our corporate partner Upwork. The event was a great success and we now have three new beautiful bookshelves to house and organize children’s books at the shelters.  Upwork also sponsored a full shelter library complete with books and educational games. We are excited to see the kids enjoying the library and experiencing new reading adventures.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Chicago HOPES for Kids and your dedication to helping children experiencing homelessness reach their full potential.  Happy Summer!

Best,

Rita Kahn
