March was an active and productive month! The curriculum was filled with fun books about music, friendship, critters large and small, and so much more. The students jammed to the blues, made artwork, learned new vocabulary and read hundreds of books, independently and during group read-aloud sessions. Code Create, Mad Science and Harmony, Hopes and Healing made appearances at our sites and showed the students an enjoyable time. Literacy Mentors and Math Circles programming continues to blaze new trails and possibilities for our program.
In mid-March Program Team members attended an excellent training sponsored by Ingenuity to support empathetic, culturally competent program development, and volunteer activities during Americorps Week successfully demonstrated the dedication and ability of our wonderful Americorps members. During Spring Break, many team members met up in Lincoln Park for an outing to the Lincoln Park Zoo and Lincoln Park Conservatory, to learn about nature and to learn about one another.
We are looking forward to an upcoming field trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory and a visit from Sesame Street characters, and are also in the process of planning for our summer session, researching books for the curriculum and building engaging, educational activities to accompany them. Thank you to all the Site Coordinators, Enrichment Partners, Americorps volunteers, community volunteers and supporters who make this program great; it could not happen without you!
